We are extremely excited to see that AMEB has finally created a coursebook for teachers and students to work through that directly correlates with the compulsory theory exams that are required for completion by all instrumentalists that undertake AMEB exams from Grade 6 and above. This is a true reflection of the growing need for students to have a strong foundation in musicianship and not only instrumental technique at the commencement of their music studies.
What are good practice strategies to fix mistakes?
Have you ever attended a music lesson only to receive the same advice as the previous week; that you still need to fix X,Y and Z? This can be particularly frustrating especially when you have practiced every single day for the past week. It is at this point that you may need to work on building a better practice strategy to fix specific mistakes
Practice requires consistent effort on a daily basis, patience (from both parents and students) and persistence to overcome challenges. Most importantly we need good concentration and attention to detail to be able to quickly identify and fix mistakes. This can be achieved with the right practice set up at home regardless of the duration of practice.
